Is Koenigin-Luise-School an English-speaking school?
No, German is the principal language at the school, but English is taught on all levels and there are a number of classes that are taught in English. Most teachers and students speak English to some extent, so you will be able to communicate. If you speak at least a little bit of (travel) German, it will definitely make things easier.

What will my placement at Koenigin-Luise-Schule be like?
You will go through a similar program as our German student teachers. The first week is devoted to orientation (going along with different teachers to different classes to get an overview). Then your schedule would be finalized including classes in your subject area on different levels where possible as well as teaching English, because the methods we use for EFL can of course be easily adapted to teaching other subjects. You would accompany a teacher into his or her classroom and observe and then do team teaching resp. take over a sequence of lessons completely with the teacher there as supervision. Overall, the program is flexible in the number of hours and types of classes that would make sense for you and would fulfill your requirements. You can be sure there won't be a lack of opportunity to get teaching experience!

Can I be of use as a native speaker of English?
Of course, all the English teachers at our school are very excited about a native speaker coming. Any (extra-curricular) activities you could offer (e.g. a debate club for interested students) in English would be greatly appreciated.

What should I wear?
Suits are worn by some, but more typically you'll find nice pants or a good pair of jeans with a blazer or something like that. There is no specific or formal dress code, so you can bring more casual clothes as long as they're not torn or otherwise inappropriate. It is usually advisable to bring at least one blazer or something similar so you can dress up if there is an occasion or you want to go to a classical concert for example.

Will I have access to computers?
You will have access to computers and to the Internet at school during school hours, but bringing a laptop with wi-fi is advisable because it makes you more flexible. Wireless connections are possible at school and at the Kolpinghaus. Remember that you may need adapters for European power plugs (220 V).
